Dr. Shazia is a courageous woman, and her story, so sad. In Pakistan, a rape occurs an estimated every one to two hours, and the women are the victims and the sinners. What’s more, Pakistan’s weak attempts to conceal the horrors make it worse. Rather than playing cover up, the government should face the problem and do something about it. Social change is so difficult to implement, and takes time and persistence. Setting up a means through which victims can have legal recourse, and providing education on who the real criminal is would constitute action. But paying the victim off, or worse, exiling the victim, is cruel. The few who do not suffer in silence are courageous and brave, for they put their very families at risk.
